3 Correspondence (Email), COR Sandy Wright May 2007. Cit. Date: 19 May 2007. Cit. ID: COR Sandy Wright. Surety: 2. I have the following info, gleaned from several other researchers, and checked against the Rainham registers by myself.
Stephen Hales chr 10/9/1791 in Stockbury, child of Stephen and Margaret Hales, married Mary Ann Hales chr 11/10/1799 in Minster in Sheppey child of Henry and Hannah Hales nee Kitney. They were married 31.5.1816 in Rodmersham (not checked). They had 10 ch ildren, the second of which was Mary Isabella who was chr 20.11.1818 in Rainham.
I have only one marriage for her, Joseph Horne and they were married in Toronto on 9th October 1836 when she was 17. I do not have any children for the couple, but she died and was buried on 25th August 1895 in Salt Lake City aged 76.
I don't have any info on Joseph, though another researcher has a date of birth of 1812, shame as a date of death would help decide whether she married again. As I understand it in the Mormon religion the men could have many wives but the women only had one husband (though she might well have had to share him). The same researcher has a second marriage to Henry Humphrey born c1813, no other details. He also has a date of death fopr Mary Isabella as 1905 which varies with mine.
He seems to have a lot of info regarding the family and quite extensive notes (to give a gist of the type of info, this is what he has on Mary Isabella
" Mary was only 14 years of age when she emigrated with her parents to the city of Toronto, Upper Canada. During the voyage to America the little girl had almost entire charge of two young babies, whose mothers were too ill to take care of them. One of these, her brother, died and was buried in the ocean. When they arrived at Toronto the cholera was raging there, but none of the family were stricken. Her parents belonged to the laboring class, the father being a shoemaker, while the mother was an expert needlewoman and withal an excellent housewife. The daughter's school days were limited to two or three years in the public schools of England. No opportunity to attend school came to her in America. She was a lover of books, however, and in her spare time read extensively. She was thoroughly conversant with the Bible at thirteen years. Industrially her inclinations were to housekeeping and plain and fancy needlework."
His name is John Fossey, and we have done no more than swop trees, he might be a useful contact for you on Genes.
Hope all that helps,
Best wishes,
Sandy
