bullet  General Notes:

Mary Ann Hales. (1826-1879) 43 years.
Chatham, beside rochester, was once a famous dockyard. The HMS Victory which Admiral Nelson sailed to the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 was built there. The medway ebbs and flows with the tide at this point.
Aylesford is about 8 miles up-stream. the town is famous for its gracefull five arched medieval bridge with V shaped notches cut in the wall to give pedestrians shelter from approaching horsedrawn carts. the pronounced hump of the bridge was so steep that the carts had to cross it at a gallop! The village of Boxley with its ruins of a famous "twelth century abbey" is to the east. 2 3
