Walter died of wounds in France 22/7/1916 aged 25. He is buried at the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery,(Plot VIII Row A Grave 139) Pas de Calais, France. Son of Edward and Sarah Ann Tickner of Warragul. Native of Warrnambool. Information from British War Graves Commission website. He was a sapper in the 15th Field Coy. Australian Engineers.AIF database states that he was in 5th Field Company Engineers Reinforcement 3 Walter was a woodcutter before joining the army.
From Leigh Prideaux - Walter and his brother George were in the same company as my grandmother Myrtle Rayner's (nee Mills) cousin Cyril Barker.
