bullet  General Notes:

He was born in Lyonshall ref census 1851, while his 2nd wife was born in Somerset. I'm curious how someone from Herefordshire, meets someone, has a child in Sussex in the early 1820s and goes to Swansea/Llanelly where he buys a hotel.
Daughter Ann is not living with him and his 2nd wife in 1841, which I find strange. Also no children of 2nd marriage as far as I can tell. (could be that they didn't survive) Maybe I'll check the parish registers again.
I have details of 2nd marriage now, thanks to Jim Kimpton
married on July 9 1837 (must have been one of the first marriages to be so registered)
William was an innkeeper at Saddlers Arms (widower)
Elizabeth lived in "Thomas Arms" and was a spinster

Williams father was Edward Sayer (farmer)
Elizabeth's father was Thomas Stone (farmer)
may 1, for the 2nd week in a row, have interrogated the Lyonshall pr's
I had previously assumed his age (as per census) as being reasonable accurate. But the regs show that he was shaving quite a bit off his age (maybe wife # 2 didn't realize how old he was)
According to the Lyonshall regs, he had to have been born in 1779 not 1799.
I have lost the detail of the baptism which is a pain, I will se e if I can get it back - when I clicked the wrong "cancel" button it disappeared

Does not seem to be mentioned by his father in his will

in 1851 he appears to be the person giving away his niece Miss Eleanor Davies (maybe daughter of his nephew ) to Mr. Richard Brett. in Swansea.
notable that in 1848 at ann's marriage to john powe the bristol newspaper notes 'youngest' daughter indicating at least 3 daughters
